On Sunday Steven Gerrard wanted two new signings on Monday.

Yesterday, clearly after boardroom discussions, expectations were dumbed down with the emphasis switching to bringing in quality players rather than having new faces in the side to play Aberdeen on Sunday.

Despite the hype surrounding the Revolution only three transfer fees have been paid out with attempts to sign Jake Cooper and Kean Bryan falling through.

This week the club were forced to pay out £500,000 in legal fees to stay with Sports Direct on top of Dave King’s failure to deliver on a £6m share issue.

Those issues have impacted on the transfer war-chest with Gerrard changing direction in his transfer demands.

He told the Daily Record: “We haven’t got much time left and every manager out there is in a rush but at the same time, we won’t make rushed decisions.

If the right person is not out there or the deal is not right or we can’t get it over the line, that’s just the way it is. We have to make sure the right people are coming in the door.

It’s no secret we are trying to strengthen in one or two areas. The idea is to have two good players to cover each position. We are not far away from that.

In the coming weeks, I’m confident you’ll see a stronger Rangers XI and bench compared to last year.”

There has been no movement in Sevco’s offer to Hearts to sign Kyle Lafferty.
