Far away from the spotlight Charly Musonda made a deadline day move to Vitesse Arnem.

Turning 22 next month, time is running out for the golden boy with pretensions far removed from his achievements in the game.

Back in January Celtic fans were in a frenzy at securing the attacking midfielder on an 18 month loan deal from Chelsea.

After a trip to the plastic of Rugby Park and uninspiring display in a 0-0 home draw with St Johnstone expectations began to drop with Musonda making more of an impact on social media than on the park.

His Celtic career amounted to starting four matches with a substitute appearance at New Douglas Park bringing a turbulent chapter to an end with the loan deal cut short.

Predictably Celtic came in for criticism over the ‘failed’ loan deal but the reality is that working with Brendan Rodgers was probably Musonda’s last chance at the top level.

Joining a mid table Dutch side without European football suggests that Chelsea have given up on the one time prodigy. On Sunday he watched from the stand as Vitesse lost 4-0 at home to Ajax.

Musonda isn’t the only big name on loan at Vitesse, coming off the bench at half time in the defeat from Ajax was Real Madrid prospect Martin Odegaard.

Russian coach Leonid Slutskiy will have his work cut out keeping that dressing room in harmony.
