Kris Ajer is facing at least a month out of football.

The defender pulled up injured during the first half of last night’s 1-0 win over St Johnstone in the Betfred Cup with Jack Hendry coming on in his place.

Ajer missed the matches against Rosenborg and Kilmarnock due to injury but now faces a more lengthy spell on the sidelines.

It looks like a hamstring for Kris,” Brendan Rodgers told The Sun.

We’ll just have to see how long that is going to be and Dedryck will miss whatever it is to be. We move on.”

Since the start of the season Celtic have been forced to chop and change the centre of defence with Filip Benkovic and Jozo Simunovic both unavailable last night.

Rodgers started the season with Simunovic and Ajer in defence but had to switch around after the former Dinamo Zagreb was red carded in the home match against Alashkert.

Dedryck Boyata’s delayed return caused more problems with Rodgers signing up Filip Benkovic on transfer deadline day on a season long loan.

Nothing is known about Marvin Compper who hasn’t featured in any competitive first team matches or reserve fixtures this season.
