Liam Henderson scored his first goal as a Verona player in Saturday’s 2-1 win away to Crotone to take his new club to top spot in Serie B.

The midfielder made the summer switch following financial problems at Bari and on the early signs could be heading towards the top flight next season to mix it with the biggest names in the game.

Henderson opened the scoring in the 14th minute with Santiago Colombatto doubling Verona’s lead just before the hour mark.

Crotone pulled a goal back five minutes from the final whistle but Verona can look forward to tomorrow’s match at home to Spezia with a one point lead at the top of Serie B.

Henderson moved to Bari in January with just five months remaining on his contract despite interest from Hibs and Preston.

Despite making his debut under Neil Lennon as a 17-year-old he failed to establish himself under Ronny Deila or Brendan Rodgers despite picking up winners medals on loan at Rosenborg and Hibs.
