Alex McLeish’s disastrous reign as Scotland manager continued with a 3-1 home defeat from Portugal.
In eight matches since replacing Gordon Strachan the former Rangers (IL) boss has suffered six defeats with just two victories against Hungary and Albania on his record.
There were less than 20,000 fans inside Hampden as a Portugal side that made 10 changes from the team that beat Poland toyed with McLeish’s side.
Surely the sfa need to admit they made the wrong appointment get rid of mcleish and start again, absolute torture to watch!

There was a reason McLeish was unemployed before getting the Scotland job. Not quite sure what it was…

Scotland have lost 7 out of last 9..and played only 2 teams who r apparently better than us..no settled team..no desire..no clue..defence poor and unknown strikers under McLeish…agree

Under Mcleish we will win nothing! Played 8 won 2 lost 6 not going to get any better!

So McLeish has now lost 6 games out of 8, including to a piss-poor Israel and two absolute shellackings from Portugal and Belgium.
Who would have thought a guy who was sacked from his last job in Egypt two years ago would fail to succeed ?

McLeish was the obvious and easy choice for the SFA, however i found it tepid and uninspiring…they shouldve spent the money and got Steve Clarke from Killie. Scotland were going forward under Strachan…now we go backwards.

McLeish’s tenure has a sense of inevitability about it already but we would do well to remember that the Nations League group is still level – and certainly more than salvageable. He wouldn’t have been my choice, and the play looks muddled, but he was set for a fall.

Nothing surprising at all about the recent results for Scotland. McLeish was barely an average manager 10 years ago never mind now. Another backwards appointment. Shambles.

Moving briefly out of third gear Portugal took the lead two minutes before half time when Helder Costa netted from 8yards out.
McLeish will probably claim that Scotland matched Portugal for much of the match but not many supporters will be fooled by that claim.
Macedo Lopes and Tue Na Bangna scored in the last 16 minutes with Steven Naismith netting with the last move of the match but no one was taking consolation from another defeat on McLeish’s scorecard.
