Four thousand Celtic fans brought Leipzig to a standstill tonight as they formed a corteo to the Red Bull Arena.

Ahead of tonight’s Europa League tie the fans congregated in the city centre before heading off in support of Brendan Rodgers side.

Led by chants of ‘Here We Go 10-in-a-row’ the corteo was applauded by locals who are used to their club being despised for the way that their club have bought their way through the ranks of the German pyramid.

Despite the incredible backing of 5,000 fans inside the stadium Celtic went down to a 2-0 defeat, barely laying a glove on the German side.

Two goals just after the half hour mark gave Leipzig the advantage with Celtic looking content to settle for a less than embarrassing scoreline.

Filip Benkovic sat the match out on the substitutes bench with Celtic suffering another defensive injury blow when Jozo Simunovic was stretchered off with 15 minutes left to play.

With Dedryck Boyata suspended for Sunday’s Betfred Cup semi-final against Hearts the hoops are likely to line up with Benkovic playing alongside Jack Hendry.
