The Scottish Hall of Fame has performed a u-turn and won’t be inducting Paul Gascoigne.

The announcement that the former Rangers (IL) midfielder was going into the Hall of Fame was greeted with a storm of protest across social media.

Scottish football has a number of far more worthy nominees based purely on football merit without taking into account the string of issues that have dogged ‘Gazza’ throughout his career.

While at Ibrox his wife Sheryl was subjected to repeated domestic abuse which of course brought no comment or condemnation from his employers.

In his first Ibrox appearance Gascoigne mimicked playing a flute in honour of the anti-Catholic organisation the Orange Order.

With his slide into alcoholism the former Spurs star has taken to attending boozy Question and Answer evenings in which the highlight seems to be having the star of the show lead the audience in derogatory songs about Catholics.
