Steven Naismith drew a blank as Scotland crashed to a 2-1 Nations League defeat in Israel.

The Hearts striker was lavishly praised after Scotland’s 2-0 win over Albania last month but barely got a look at goal tonight against the side ranked 94th in the FIFA rankings.

After dismissing Leigh Griffiths’ international credentials at the last double-header Alex McLeish went with wee Naisy and Jonny Russell against the Israeli’s with both players substituted having barely made an impact on the match.

A first half penalty from Charlie Mulgrew gave Scotland the lead at the interval despite the home-side having the bulk of possession and chances.

Dor Peretz levelled the scores in the 52nd minute, John Souttar was sent off just past the hour before Kieran Tierney turned a fierce cross from Beram Kayal into his own net.

It was a miserable night for the Tartan Army with only a few bursts from midfield from Callum McGregor and John McGinn plus the saves of Allan McGregor to draw comfort from.
