Steven MacLean is free to play against Hibs tomorrow night despite being hit with a two match SFA ban for his assault on Eboue Kouassi.

The Hearts striker can appeal against the decision by the Compliance Officer on Thursday, if the charge is upheld he will miss Saturday’s match against Celtic and the home clash with Kilmarnock.

MacLean, who was already on a yellow card, was seen by television viewers making a grab for Kouassi.

Willie Collum spoke to both players but decided against taking any further action but MacLean has now been hit with a Brutality charge.

With Steven Naismith out for six to eight weeks the loss of MacLean against Celtic will be a major blow to Craig Levein’s plans for Saturday’s match.

If Willie Collum had decided to send MacLean off at Murrayfield he would have been suspended for one Betfred Cup tie next season.
