As recently as January 2015 Steven Gerrard gave an in-depth interview about his early footballing life without a single mention of Paul Gascoigne.
On Friday at Murray Park the current Sevco boss was happy to tell the world about his boyhood hero- he had even ‘bought all the VHS, cd’s and DVD’s’.
Do yourself a favour Gerrard and just shut up. All this ingratiating yourself to their mind-set has lost you any credibility you had amongst non Sevconians. pic.twitter.com/OZh7wf5rEM

Here is what was actually said, following a question from the press. Gerrard blasted nothing and the headline is a complete lie. The same thing will happen to your players/manager this season. Don’t take anything the gutter press says as gospel. pic.twitter.com/Up5GFVA3ap

In another pre-Ibrox pay roll interview Gerrard had discussed his hero Kenny Dalglish.
Three years ago Gerrard told FourFourTwo: “I studied Paul Ince and Jamie Redknapp on and off the pitch to see how they behaved.
“I watched how they ate, how they dressed, what cars they drove and how they were when I asked them to sign stuff. Every day I was logging stuff that I still use to this day.”
It seems that after just a couple of months inside Ibrox Gerrard has taken on all the baggage of that place, much like his ‘hero’ Gascoigne.
When pressed into why he made flute gestures on his debut in 1995 in a friendly against Steau Bucharest the troubled Geordie revealed that he had been tipped off about it by Ally McCoist- the fun loving investor in the club created by Charles Green in 2012.
After his first domestic match Gerrard complained about decisions going against his club for years without any sanction coming from the SFA.
As the financial mess at Ibrox goes from bad to worse the PR stunts will only get more desperate as the siege mentality again goes up to deflect blame away from the guilty men inside the company.
