Seven years ago today Celtic announced the signing of a Swedish internationalist from Rosenborg.

With his contract expiring Mikael Lustig arrived on a Bosman deal to a club that already had Mark Wilson, Adam Matthews and Cha Du Ri competing for the right-back slot.

On his debut away to Aberdeen it looked like a gust of wind could blow him over but unlike fellow debutant Andre Blackman the Swede managed to last the course of time.

The early appearances weren’t inspiring but gradually Lustig found his feet, discovered his form and became a key player in Neil Lennon’s side and successive Celtic managers.

Like fellow Swedes Henrik Larsson and Johan Mjallby the former Rosenborg defender quickly bought into Celtic, taking the passions of the fans onto the park.

With 19 goals, numerous trophies and Champions League qualifiers to call on Lustig has experienced the full range of Celtic emotions with one strike at Ibrox in April 2017 summing up the affection built up over the last seven years.
