Ian Bankier told Celtic shareholders that the club was entirely at the mercy of the SFA.
Over the last decade a number of issues have gone way beyond honest mistakes from officials that could have cost Celtic and other clubs millions of pounds.
Central to the issue is the 2011 UEFA licence awarded to the old Rangers club despite having well established overdue tax debts. The club went into liquidation still owing those debts, Resolution 12 from the 2013 Celtic AGM has been live ever since.
Looking back at the collapse of the old club in 2011 Bankier told the Celtic AGM:
The SFA decided absolutely not to do that (hold an investigation into the collapse). We are in the hands of the SFA, we do take up the cause of what you are looking for.
The fact that the debt to Her Majesty arose from fielding ineligible players seems to have been overlooked.
In most countries games involving Tore Andre Flo and Ronald de Boer would be awarded as 3-0 victories to opponents.
The SFA and SPL turned a blind eye to those breeches, when HMRC served a Section 36 notice no-one inside Hampden dared to investigate.
When the old club died there was no SFA investigation, Financial Fair Play is an alien concept, the tribute act are repeating the same mistakes.
With Dave King, Paul Murray, Al Johnston and Andrew Dickson involved it’s hardly a surprise that the old ways are still being played out.
As long as Dickson and Campbell Ogilvie’s place men roam the corridors of power Scottish football will be geared towards a resumption of it’s gerrymandered Old Firm domination, even with one club playing to an entirely different set of rules.
With Alan McRae as president and Rod Petrie waiting for the handover it’s as if 2012 never happened with the old guard firmly in control.
