Brendan Rodgers has insisted that the buck stops with him for all Celtic transfers.

The modern football club has various departments working on player recruitment with no definite plan in place.

Managers are an increasingly endangered specie with the term coach coming more into play as Directors of Football, Recruitment Manager’s and chief executives exert more influence.

By any standards January 2018 was a poor transfer window for Celtic.

Scott Bain arrived as a back up keeper, Jack Hendry has yet to convince the fans, Lewis Morgan remains on the fringes of the team while Charly Musonda had his loan spell from Chelsea cut short.

Above all of those deals lies the story of Marvin Compper.

A year ago Rodgers spoke of the need to bring in an experienced central defender, the then 32-year-old from RB Leipzig seemed to fit the bill perfectly.

Since signing and picking up an injury during the winter break in Dubai Compper has virtually dropped off the radar with just an 81 minute run out against Morton in December to his name.

I will always assume responsibility for every player coming in,” Rodgers told the Celtic AGM when the Compper question came up. “Blame me, it’s one of those things.”

Rodgers went on to describe Compper’s injury and fitness issues while he turned to Kris Ajer and Jack Hendry.

With Filip Benkovic and Dedryck Boyata currently in possession of the places in central defence there appears to be no prospect of Compper featuring in the Celtic first team.
