Brendan Rodgers wasn’t prepared to put a date on Leigh Griffiths return to first team action.

The striker hasn’t featured since Celtic’s 6-0 win at St Johnstone at the beginning of October which was followed by his withdrawal from Alex McLeish’s Scotland squad.

Odsonne Edouard has carried the burden of being Celtic’s sole striker but with a hectic schedule about to kick off Rodgers will need as many as possible of his squad fit and available for selection.

At today’s AGM one fan expressed his disappointment about the lack of support given to Griffiths after he was subjected to media speculation with McLeish bringing up the striker’s private life.

The question moved on to the fitness of the striker with Rodgers reluctant to put a date on his return to top team action.

He has rejoined the squad in training for the last four or five days,” the Celtic boss told shareholders. “You have to be at a super level of fitness for this side, Leigh is up for that and fighting for his place.”

As the shareholder highlighted away days at Hibs, Aberdeen and the new Rangers club next month Rodgers reassured saying: “He’s ok, just relax.”

Saturday’s match on the artificial pitch at Hamilton is unlikely to see Griffiths make a return to action but the Europa League match away to Rosenborg should be a realistic target.
