Brendan Rodgers has explained the mystery about the ‘burst bawz’ at Hamilton.
Referee Don Robertson has a few tasks to perform, one of the most basic is to provide a football for the players to knock about the pitch and try to put in the goal net at each end of the pitch.
As well as missing a clear second minute penalty for Celtic when Matt Kilgannon used his arm to block a cross from Odsonne Edouard the match referee seemed content to play the match with a ball that was clearly flat.
Rodgers rarely gets agitated on the touchline but was clearly angry with fourth official Steven McLean who seemed completely uninterested in having a proper ball to play the game with.
“Every ball we used seemed to be flat, all seven of them,” the Celtic boss told The Sun.
“I’m not sure if that was a tactic or what, but it was like passing a balloon. They’ve got all the tricks up here haven’t they?
“Eventually we got our kit-man to go and get the pump and pump them all up.”
Despite the plastic pitch and flat ball Celtic managed to win the match 3-0 to retain their place at the top of the SPFL Premiership.
BT Sport co-commentator Stephen Craigan made a flippant comment about Celtic complaining about the ball pressure lumping it in with the complaint last season about the long grass of Tynecastle.
