For the second time in a week Brendan Rodgers has clashed with BBC Scotland reporter Jonathan Sutherland.

Celtic’s 2-1 win over RB Leipzig was a source of great joy as a team made up largely of young Scottish players squared upto and overcame a leading German side backed up by a worldwide sponsor.

When your opponents can afford to spend £16m on a right-back you know that they are serious, Celtic’s full-backs cost the club nothing with the entire defence including Craig Gordon coming in at £1.5m.

After a gentle opening question Sutherland quickly turned his attention to the sort of canteen chat at the BBC that will provide comfort today after they watched another crack appear in the Stevie Gee miracle at Ibrox.

SUTHERLAND of BBC: “Celtic now level on points with RB Leipzig but they do have that important head-to-head goal difference advantage, so basically it comes down to bettering RB Leipzig’s points tally in these last two matches.

How confident are you that you CAN do that and progress.”

RODGERS: Well typical Scottish, you always bring a negative onto a very positive night

SUTHERLAND: “It is true though”

RODGERS: “The most important thing was to win and win well and I think that we did that. There are still a few games to go and like I said we will do our best.

What is of more interest is the scenarios in matchday five when the two branches of Red Bull meet up in Austria.

All sort of options are available to work out what is best for the drinks firm but Celtic’s victory leaves the hoops with the chance to reach 12 points which Salzburg and Leipzig can match.
