Steven Gerrard has warned the Sevco money men that he doesn’t want to see Alfredo Morelos sold in January.

Whether it is a genuine concern on a continuation of the fake news surrounding the Columbian striker is unclear.

At the start of the year mystery clubs in China had bids of over £10m rejected for Morelos although no evidence was ever uncovered of the alleged interest.

When one BBC Scotland reporter contacted sources in China to deny the story he was quickly reprimanded into a u-turn.

Morelos scored against Livingston at the weekend with Gerrard warning that he doesn’t want the striker sold to cover the black hole in the company accounts.

I’ll fight tooth and nail to keep Fred here for as long as possible,” the current Ibrox boss told the Daily Record. “I’ll fall out with people to keep him – that’s how much I like him. From day one I’ve told everyone I love him. That hasn’t changed, it’s growing.”

Dave King is expected to be given a rousing reception at tomorrow’s AGM as he plays the Gerrard card for all it is worth.

Thursday at the Court of Session in Edinburgh will ba tougher gig as the South African based criminal is finally charged with Contempt for failing to make an offer to shareholder excluded from his March 2015 takeover.

King was requested to deposit £11m in an escrow account but in typical fashion decided to ignore the ruling and will now be hit with costs as well as a fine and suspended prison sentence.

After his court appearance King is expected to return to South Africa with the future of Morelos unlikely to be a priority.
