Carlos Pena is set for an early return to Ibrox after flopping in two loan deals back in Mexico.

The chunky midfielder was nicknamed Gullit by himself arrived at Ibrox in a £2.2m deal in the summer of 2017 as Pedro Caixinha’s marquee signing.

When Caixinha was sacked it started an exodus of the Latin imports with Pena sent on loan to Crux Azul where he was reunited with Brother Pedro.

After some unfortunate booze related incidents Crux Azul terminated the year long loan deal with Necaxa.

‘Fitness’ issues have dogged Pena at Necaxa who have terminated their loan deal with two months still to run.

Having checked into a clinic to deal with his alcohol issues Pena is protecting himself from disciplinary action from his employer.

With a contract worth £30,000 a week running until June 2020 it looks like Steven Gerrard will need to perform a miracle to avoid pouring £2.3m in wages down the drain.
