Calvin Miller has made a surprise return to Celtic.

The 20-year-old signed for Dundee on a season long loan at the end of August and has been a regular under Neil McCann and Jim McIntyre starting 15 SPFL matches including six during December.

Announcing his arrival the Dundee website stated:

Dundee Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of Calvin Miller on loan from Celtic until the end of the season.

There could be various interpretations of the sudden end of the loan deal but the most likely is that Brendan Rodgers wants Miller as deputy to Kieran Tierney who has missed Celtic’s last five matches through injury.

Emilio Izaguirre, Jonny Hayes and Callum McGregor have all played at left-back in the last two matches. McGregor was Celtic’s best player at Ibrox yesterday but was a big loss from the midfield which was over run.

Miller will rejoin Celtic for next week’s trip to Dubai and a week of training before returning to action in the Scottish Cup tie against Airdrie Utd/Clydebank.
