Celtic’s interest in Vincent Janssen has been denied by Stephen McGowan.

The man from the Daily Mail has a better track record than most on Celtic transfer dealings with rumours rife that the Spurs striker was a loan target for Brendan Rodgers.

Some fans even claimed that Janssen had been spotted at last week’s match against Motherwell but it’s unlikely he would have left the behind Christmas shopping in London to watch a routine win over Lanarkshire’s finest.

Janssen was a prolific scorer for AZ Alkmaar attracting a £17m move to Spurs but the form of Harry Kane has left him on the sidelines, starting just seven EPL matches since moving to London.

Last season he spent time on loan at Fenerbahce with another loan deal expected next month. Rodgers has gone on record as expecting to sign two strikers during the January transfer window but those deals are likely to be with a view to next season’s European qualifiers.

Bringing in a high profile striker who will return to his parent club in May won’t help Celtic’s prospects of getting through four rounds of qualifiers.
