Kris Ajer looks like giving Brendan Rodgers an early Christmas boost with a return to action.

The defender suffered a fractured eye socket during the 0-0 draw at Livingston on November 11.

After having surgery on the injury Ajer joked that he now looked like a real defender and was quickly back in training at Lennoxtown.

While he can take part in the physical work he will have to wait on the medical staff giving him the all clear to head the ball.

With Dedryck Boyata likely to be out of action until after the winter break the return of Ajer for part of the December programme would be a very welcome boost.

Filip Benkovic is expected to be joined by Jozo Simunovic in central defence against Motherwell tonight with Jack Hendry moving onto the bench, Leigh Griffiths is expected to come into the team with Odsonne Edouard getting a well earned rest.
