Ryan Christie is in line for a rapid return to action.

The midfielder was stretchered off during the Europa League defeat from RB Salzburg after getting five minutes treatment on the pitch.

It looked like a serious injury to the 23-year-old with fears that he could be facing an extended time on the sidelines.

Christie was missing from the Celtic side that lost 2-0 to Hibs today but could be back in action on Saturday when the hoops face Dundee at home.

Asked if he would play again before the winter break Rodgers told Radio Scotland: “Yeah, hopefully. It’s not as bad as we first thought. When he had the scan after the game we had good news on that.

He is now weight bearing, so he can get his foot on the floor. You never know, maybe next weekend but it was a sore one. At the time he had to come off because he couldn’t put his weight on it but hopefully he will be back sooner than we thought.”

Christie came into the Celtic side that faced Hearts in the Betfred Cup semi-final at the end of October and hasn’t looked back.

Seven goals in as many matches, including the winner in the Betfred Cup Final win over Aberdeen came at the same time as Celtic found their best form of the season.

Celtic find themselves in third place after the weekend matches, next up for the hoops is Motherwell at home on Wednesday followed by a visit from Dundee three days later.
