Leicester City have sacked Claude Puel with Brendan Rodgers the early favourite to take over from the Frenchman, according to The Sun.

Four successive defeats, highlighted by last night’s home loss against Crystal Palace proved too much for the Leicester board who sacked Claudio Ranieri within a year of winning the EPL.

First team coaches Mike Stowell and Adam Sadler will take charge in the interim with the possibility that Leicester could wait until the end of the season before making an announcement.

Rodgers is under contract with Celtic until 2021 but almost every managerial contract has conditions that allow them to be broken.

Managing Leicester is expected to be something that Rodgers would give consideration to but it’s unlikely to provide the sort of environment where he can coach and develop players.

Today’s Celtic v Motherwell match is likely to see the Irishman body-swerve speculation over a move but it’s rare for any manager to rule something out entirely.
