The Sun are claiming that Leicester City want to appoint a successor to Claude Puel and are ready to come up with a £6.5m compensation offer now for Brendan Rodgers.

From the moment that the final whistle went on Saturday’s 4-1 defeat from Crystal Palace there was speculation that the Frenchman’s tenure was over with Celtic favourites John Hartson and Chris Sutton split over whether the job would tempt the hoops boss.

At first the suggestion from Leicester was that they were prepared to wait until the summer to get their man with Neil Lennon being touted as a caretaker until the end of the season.

The Sun reports:

They are ready to move immediately to start the process of getting the club back on track following Claude Puel’s sacking.

Rodgers will cost around £6.5million to land from the Scottish Premiership leaders mid-season and with a treble within sight.

The Foxes are expected to make an approach in the next few days over a compensation package.

The other name being strongly linked with Leicester is Rafa Benitez with the Newcastle boss out of contract in the summer.

The Spaniard has had a long running battle with Newcastle owner Mike Ashley reluctant to pour money into the club which he is open about trying to sell.

Having managed Liverpool, Chelsea and Real Madrid, Benitez might be looking for a club of similar stature although Leicester have shown that they are prepared to spend big to compete towards the top of the table.

Rodgers is under contract with Celtic until June 2021 which would see him complete five years in Glasgow if he fulfills that deal.
