Ewan Henderson won’t be getting carried away by his Man of the Match performance against Motherwell on Sunday.

Injuries and suspensions pitched the 18-year-old in from the start in a match that Celtic had to win to restore their eight point lead at the top of the SPFL table.

Alongside the returning Nir Bitton, Henderson didn’t look out of place as the hoops claimed all three points in a fiery clash that will be remembered for Motherwell’s controversial goal.

Henderson was heavily involved throughout with the highlight being the cross for Odsonne Edouard that brought Celtic’s second goal.

I thought I had done well but you can always do better so I really don’t want to get too ahead of myself,” he told the Evening Times. “I just need to keep my head down and keep working hard in training. It is about working and listening and just trying to impress the manager.

After the game the manager spoke to me to say that I had done really well but just to keep working hard and that is exactly what I intend to do. It is about trying to get in and stay in but just now I just need to be listening and doing what the manager asks of me. Hopefully whenever I do get a chance that I can make an impression.”

Henderson certainly made an impression against Motherwell with supporters impressed by the maturity of his play.

Scott Brown and Callum McGregor are likely to be available for tomorrow’s clash with Hearts at Tynecastle but with Ryan Christie out injured Henderson is certain to be involved in the squad.

In January the 18-year-old signed a new contract keeping him with Celtic until 2022.
