Willie Collum will referee Saturday’s Scottish Cup tie between Hibs and Celtic, the third time that he’ll be in charge of the hoops in his last 10 matches.

In his last Celtic appointment, away to St Johnstone in the SPFL the Lanarkshire based referee refused to give the hoops a penalty when Olivier Burke was chopped down in the first half.

Halfway through the second period he failed to take any action as Ryan Christie was booted in the ribs and Odsonne Edouard taken out the game by a straight leg challenge as Celtic pushed for a breakthrough.

In his previous hoops appointment, at Aberdeen on December 26, he awarded the Dons two soft penalties and felt that an over the ball attack on Christie’s shin was only worth a yellow card for Niall McGinn.

Back in November the club from Ibrox claimed that there are ‘underlying issues’ with Collum following a match with St Mirren. Collum has handled 13 Scottish matches since then, none of them involving Steven Gerrard’s club.

Steven McLean will referee tonight’s match between Hearts and Celtic, Collum will be the fourth official at Ibrox for the visit of Dundee with Don Robertson refereeing the game.
