Leigh Griffiths has sent a message of thanks to the Celtic support.

More than three months after stepping away from the game the striker is starting on the comeback trail with some basic fitness work at Lennoxtown.

When it was announced that Griffiths was taking time out from football Celtic fans quickly offered their support across social media.

With over 100 goals to his name the 28-year-old has played a big role in the run of success that the hoops have enjoyed since he signed five years ago.

Griffiths is a regular on social media but used the official Celtic website to send out his thanks to supporters:

“I’d like to thank everyone for showing me such support across the past few months. I am so grateful to the club for everything they have given me and the way in which they have supported me so strongly.

“The Celtic supporters, too, have been a huge source of inspiration and strength for me and I want to thank them all sincerely for staying with me. I know it will be a long road back but I am ready to do all I can to get there.”

With Moussa Dembele sold to Lyon at the end of August the striking burden has largely fallen on Odsonne Edouard with Oli Burke brought in during the January transfer window.

It remains to be seen whether Griffiths will play again this season but if all goes well he should be in peak fitness for the start of next season.
