When Brendan Rodgers upped sticks for Leicester last week he attempted to take his entire back-room team with him with one strange exception- Lee Congerton.

Chris Davies, Kolo Toure and Glen Driscoll seemed to be part of the furniture with Team Rodgers but his Head of Recruitment seems caught out of the loop.

Congerton arrived at Celtic in March 2017 close to a year after Rodgers with his contract set up by Collingwood Legal.

It seems that the Head of Recruitment is on a completely different deal with a parting of the ways likely to be under discussion.

Announcing the deal Collingwood Legal reported:

Principal Solicitor Paul McGowan worked closely with Collingwood Legal client Lee, leading contract negotiations with Celtic in the process to appoint him as the Glasgow club’s head of recruitment.

I worked closely with Lee and negotiated on his behalf with Celtic about the terms of his employment with the club,” said Paul, an industry recognised expert in the field of employment law with 20 years experience.

We were delighted to see Lee appointed to a job he feels so passionately about at a club with such history and success.”

Congerton’s arrival coincided with a nose-dive in Celtic’s transfer dealings with only Olivier Ntcham and Odsonne Edouard considered to be successes although the midfielder hasn’t hit the heights again this season.

It is never clear how much of an influence any individual has but as Head of Recruitment Congerton takes a large share of the blame for Celtic’s recent transfer business.

A parting of the ways seems inevitable but with a water-tight contract in place the process involved will be different to the job lot transfer of Rodgers, Davies, Toure and Driscoll.
