Chris Sutton has added to the pressure on Steven Gerrard by claiming that he has underachieved against an average Celtic side.

Ahead of the Glasgow derby on Sunday the pressure is very much on both managers despite the different circumstances that they are operating under.

Neil Lennon is effectively on trial to be Celtic boss next season while Gerrard is coming under increasing pressure for concrete signs of improvement on last season’s disastrous showing under Pedro Caixinha and Graeme Murty.

Steven Gerrard has banged on all season about the atmosphere at Ibrox and how the crowd have helped his team so I’m surprised by his comments.

It is a massive game for Neil Lennon and Steven Gerrard and as things stand Steven Gerrard has underachieved, big style. Out of both cup competitions, 10 points behind Celtic- a Celtic team that I have to say has been pretty average at times this season. Not as good as they were last season and the gap could go to 13 points. People can’t tell me that it’s been a good season for Steven Gerrard.

Gerrard raised a few laughs at his media conference today when he went in to detail to explain that Sunday’s match would be different to getting into a den of lions.

After four matches without a win the pressure is on the rookie boss as he goes head-to-head with Lennon who has a wealth of dug out experience to call upon.
