Cristian Gamboa has been offered a contract by Costa Rican side Deportiva Alajuelense, according to The Sun.

The defender is out of contract at the end of this season with no suggestion that Celtic are interested in extending his three year stay at the club.

Gamboa left Costa Rica in 2010 to join Danish side Fredrikstad and joined Celtic in August 2016 during Brendan Rodgers’ first transfer window.

After deputising for Mikael Lustig during his first season he fell out of favour after choosing to play for Costa Rica in the Gold Cup as Celtic started their Champions League qualifying ties.

At the start of this season he was brought in for a couple of matches but despite having obvious attacking qualities he never quite came upto scratch defensively.

Half a dozen players, as well as the current loanees, are expected to leave Celtic in the summer with Scott Allan signing a pre-contract agreement with Hibs, ironically whilst Neil Lennon was in charge of the Edinburgh club.

Dorus de Vries, Dedryck Boyata, Mikael Lustig, Emilio Izaguirre and Scott Sinclair will all be out of contract in the summer.
