In the week where Steven Gerrard appears to have written off the Ibrox futures of Borna Barisic and Eros Grezna, Osijek striker Mirko Maric has been linked with a £3m move to Ibrox.

With Nokola Katic also recruited from Croatian football last summer it seems that there is almost an obsession with spending transfer money in one country.

According to the Daily Record a fee of just £3m is required for the top scorer in the Croatian league despite Maric having three years left to run on his Osijek contract.

The Record reports:

Interestingly, he is connected to the same agency as Grezda and Rangers have built up a bit of a relationship with Argentum Sport. Rangers have already started to do their business early.

The best part of £5m was apparently spent on Barisic and Grezda but Gerrard was scathing about some un-named experienced players that featured in a closed doors friendly against Liverpool last week. Barisic, Grezda and Kyle Lafferty failed to make the bench against Aberdeen on Sunday.

Despite the low media profile it seems that all activities at Ibrox are on hold until they receive the outcome of their latest court-room battle with Mike Ashley.

Compensation of close to £10m for repeated breaches of contract has been mentioned which on top of legal costs could have a crippling effect on the club.

Jake Hastie and Greg Stewart have both been heavily linked with out of contract moves to Ibrox but so far no moves have been finalised.
