John Hartson believes that major work is required over the summer on Celtic’s attacking options.

Most attention has been on the hoops defence with Dedryck Boyata and Filip Benkovic moving on alongside four out of contract full-backs.

That area of the team will require major investment but up front Celtic will be left short as Hartson explained in the Evening Times:

There is an awful lot of work to be done. Not just at the back either. Up front, Oliver Burke and Timothy Weah could go back to West Brom and Paris Saint-Germain respectively. Vakoun Issouf Bayo is right out of the picture. Scott Sinclair, too, hasn’t been featuring regularly. A date can’t be put on Leigh Griffith’s return.

Celtic do have plenty of wingers to choose from but a striker or two to work with or compete with Odsonne Edouard is badly needed.

Replacing Moussa Dembele was always going to be a massive task with Bayo unlikely to be rated as more than third choice.

Under Brendan Rodgers the French market was closely monitored, finding another Edouard would be ideal with deals like Dembele highly unlikely.

Regardless of who will be manager next season the club’s recruitment policy continues to operate with players scouted and valued over how likely they are to come in and fit into the Celtic system.
