Timo Weah could be facing a club v country battle of Celtic beat Aberdeen on Sunday to reach the final of the Scottish Cup.

The final takes place on May 25 with the USA playing their opening match in the u-20 World Cup Finals on May 24.

Weah has picked up eight full caps but is the subject of debate in the USA over whether he should play in the u-20 World Cup or be involved with the full squad at the Gold Cup which starts in June.

USA Under 20s manager Tab Ramos told The Sun: “With Tim, that’s a conversation that still needs to be had a little bit closer to the World Cup.

“That’s internal, between me, our head coach Greg Berhalter and our general manager Earnie Stewart.

“And they would indicate to me what the plans would be for Tim and two other players – Josh Sargent and Tyler Adams who have also both played for the full team.

“Obviously they would certainly be welcome. At the moment, I’m preparing the players who I know I have available.

“My hope is to have the squad together for at least 10 days before the World Cup but the reality is, if it’s a really important player to the team and I have to wait until after that weekend of the May 19, then I’ll likely to decide that it’s important for the team to wait that long to get a player in.”

In 2017 Patrick Roberts was in a similar situation but opted to be involved in Celtic’s Scottish Cup Final win over Aberdeen rather than play for England who went on to win the u-20 World Cup.

Weah has made most of his Celtic appearances as a substitute and is expected to be on the bench for the semi-final against Aberdeen.
