Kris Boyd looks like taking his place on the substitute bench to face Celtic for the final time on Saturday.
The Kilmarnock striker will go down in the history books as the all-time top scorer in the SPL (1998-2014) but has only managed one career goal against Celtic over a glorious career spanning 19 years.
That one moment of glory came in May 2007 when he sclaffed a shot under Artur Boruc at Ibrox with the Polish keeper leaving the pitch with a CHAMPIONS flag to cover up his embarrassment.
Boyd is now in his third spell with Kilmarnock but appears to be concentrating his energy on his media career which covers The Sun, Sky Sports, Radio Scotland and TalkSPORT where he has explained revelations such as the split in the Celtic dressing room.
In September 2016 he explained how if a shot from Barrie Mackay had flown into the net Mark Warburton would have got the better of Brendan Rodgers.
Boyd is out of contract at the end of this season with Steve Clarke telling The Sun: “He was top goalscorer in Scotland last year though this year hasn’t quite worked out the same for him.
“We found a different way to play in the first half of the season. Young Eamonn Brophy stepped forward and scored a few goals while Greg Stewart was fantastic for us.
“Even in the second half of the season — it took me a little bit longer to find our rhythm after January when we had one or two setbacks — we have settled into a nice way of playing.
“Kris has been involved in the last three games and I am sure if he plays a few more between now and the end of the season he’ll be chapping on the door and asking for a new playing contract.”
On Sunday Boyd will be part of Sky Sports coverage from Ibrox for the visit of Aberdeen.
