A couple of weeks ago Steven Gerrard was making a fool of himself discussing the detail of going into a lions den, with real lions. Today he simply dug into the big book of paranoia to preview Sunday’s match with Aberdeen.

In August his club were a class above the Dons, on Sunday he’ll be trying to avoid a fourth defeat within Glasgow this season from Derek McInnes’ side.

Apparently Aberdeen only raise their game against the club from Ibrox, some might suggest the same about Gerrard’s side when they play Hearts.

In nine SPFL matches against Aberdeen, Hibs and Kilmarnock Gerrard has watched his side win once, in four games against Hearts it has been a clean sweep of points for the Ibrox men.

With each passing week Gerrard is trashing his own reputation even if it was only for being dull and boring. Putting his team on the park against much weaker opponents has exposed him as a complete rookie in management. Time after time Steve Clarke and McInnes have outsmarted him with a fraction of the resources. Jermain Defoe picks up more from Ibrox than the entire Kilmarnock first team squad.

For Gerrard’s information Aberdeen get stuck in every week, their last two matches have been especially bruising with five red cards dished out, neither game involved Gerrard’s team.

Appealing to the lowest common denominator among the support has a very limited shelf life, very soon Gerrard’s words will come back to haunt him as he leaves Ibrox enjoying the same status as Pedro Caixinha and Mark Warburton.
