Chris Sutton believes that major work is required on a Celtic squad that has been flat all season with a new striker a priority.

This weekend could see the eighth successive title clinched but after three poor transfer windows it’s clear that the team is in decline.

Kris Ajer, Scott Bain and Ryan Christie have emerged this season but it has left Neil Lennon managing a squad that looks flat and tired.

In attack Celtic have been particularly limited with no attempt made at bringing in a replacement for Moussa Dembele with £20m added to an already healthy bank balance.

The backbone of the Invincible season is still carrying the side this season with fans frustrated by back to back goal-less draws either side of a comprehensive win over Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup.

With just six weeks between the Scottish Cup Final against Hearts and the first European qualifier time is against the club as Sutton explained.

He told the Daily Record:

I don’t know why some people are surprised Celtic have been flat in recent weeks – they have been flat all season.

This is a side that needs major work in the summer but right now it’s about getting over the line, no matter how they do it.

Neil Lennon has taken some flak but I have sympathy for him, and not just because we were team-mates.

Celtic have struggled to find a way to play this season and it’s looked like there was no Plan B after Moussa Dembele left.

I’d like to see Timo Weah get a run out at some stage as he brings something different to the side and it could do with a bit of a shake up.

Edouard is expected to lead the attack today with loan signing Oli Burke on the bench.
