Neil Lennon has shot down the latest batch of social media rumours regarding Leigh Griffiths.

The striker took time away from football at the start of December but has been back training and conditioning at Lennoxtown for six weeks.

Although he has still to be pictured training with his team-mates Lennon was dismissive of the wishful thoughts being stirred up regarding the striker that he signed from Wolves in 2014 for £1m.

The hoops boss would love to have Griffiths available as a striking option but is more concerned about ensuring the long term welfare of the 28 year old rather than finding a quick fix for goal scoring problems.

Asked about the latest delusional rumours about Griffiths on social media Lennon replied with ‘I don’t know what you are referring to’.

The reporter then went into details about Griffiths’ career being in doubt.

‘It’s complete nonsense,” the Celtic boss replied. “It’s social media, we live in an age of fake news, people want to stir trouble for people. I think that Leigh gets more than his fair share of negativity.

He works very very hard, he was in yesterday, he was in today, his condition is improving all the time. We’re hoping that he can start training out on the grass next week. In terms of stuff away from the club his behaviour has been impeccable.”

Odsonne Edouard is likely to lead the line for Celtic at Ibrox on Sunday with Oli Burke failing to provide any real competition in that position.

Lennon has gone on record as stating that bringing in a quality striker has to be a transfer priority ahead of next season which starts with a Champions League qualifier on July 9 or 10.
