Celtic agree fee to sign midfielder

|

Motherwell have agree a fee with Celtic for David Turnbull.

At 6.30pm tonight the Fir Park side announced that agreement had been reached with the hoops given permission to talk to the midfielder.

Turnbull made his big breakthrough last season scoring 14 goals from midfield and transforming Motherwell’s fortunes in the second half of the season.

In 1994 Celtic paid Motherwell £1.75m for Phil O’Donnell with the fee for Turnbull significantly above that mark.

Turnbull will now be able to compete with fellow Scots Callum McGregor, Scott Brown and Ryan Christie for a place in midfield with rumours that Tom Rogic and Olivier Ntcham could be transferred.

Should talks go well with Celtic Turnbull will join Celtic in time for the start of pre-season training on Monday before heading to Austria for the first pre-season friendly on June 26 against Pinkfeld.

Paying the best part of £3m for a player who won’t turn 20 until next month is a major statement of intent from Celtic that Neil Lennon will be backed to invest in the first team squad.
