Steven Gerrard has warned his players about talking up their title winning prospects while discussing the prospects of watching James Tavernier lifting the Champions League!

The rookies Ibrox boss has struggled to stay on message, during the week he was talking up interest again in Tav and Alfredo Morelos while giving the game away that no bids had been received for the dynamic duo.

June has once again been an incredible unbeaten month for the Ibrox club with Gerrard having the additional thrill of watching Liverpool lift the Champions League in Madrid.

Watching from the stand as Jordan Henderson lifted the trophy sent Gerrard’s imagination into overdrive.

It was deserved after the season that Liverpool had and going so close in the Premier League,” he told the Daily Record. “It was fantastic for everyone and I’ve still got mates in that team.

I have built a bit of a relationship with Jurgen as well and after going so close to the sixth the time before, I was delighted for him. It was a great experience. Being there and seeing it, I looked at the Liverpool fans.

Emotionally it brought back a lot of memories of my own from being a Liverpool player. I was thinking ‘OK, I would love that to be us at Rangers’.”

Over at The Sun Gerrard warned his over optimistic stars: I don’t mind people who are confident and ambitious, but for me, it’s important the players understand it’s the easy part doing interviews and saying we’ve got to do this or that.

They’ve got to go and prove it on a pitch consistently. Last year, we weren’t consistent enough in the league and cups.”

So far Gerrard has splashed out £600,000 on new signings with the same amount due to Motherwell and Charlton in Development Fees.
