Steven Gerrard has apparently rejected the opportunity to replace Frank Lampard as manager of Derby.

The former Chelsea midfielder is expected to be appointed as the new manager of Chelsea leaving a vacancy at the Championship club.

With no sign of bumper offers coming in for Alfredo Morelos or James Tavernier Ibrox fans are in need of some good news stories with a clutch of non-marquee signings proving underwhelming.

The Sun reports:

STEVEN GERRARD has rejected an offer to replace Frank Lampard as Derby County manager, according to reports.

The Times claims the Rangers boss was approached by the English Championship side, who expect Gerrard’s former England team-mate to replace Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea.

But it’s claimed Liverpool legend Gerrard made it clear he’s committed to the Light Blues.

It’s strange that the approach was made directly to the former Liverpool youth coach rather than through his employer.

Gerrard has been unable to spend a penny on transfer fees despite seeing his side finish last season trophyless.

With damages due to Sports Direct after Dave King’s latest legal defeat it’s unlikely that the Ibrox club will be paying out any transfer fees unless it is to Croatia.
