One of Scotland’s leading referee’s is believed to have failed a fitness test in another blow to John Fleming’s faltering empire.

Over the last couple of months Craig Thomson has retired, Andrew Dallas has resigned from the elite FIFA list with Stephen Brown retiring at the age of 35 after his sectarian abuse of Neil Lennon was highlighted four years after getting the all clear from the SFA.

Derek Crothers stepped down from refereeing duties a year ago disillusioned by the cronyism involved and has provided a regular stream of insider news from disillusioned former colleagues.

The FIFA list is drawn exclusively from the Glasgow area with the officials promoted by Fleming who was assistant to Hugh Dallas before his sudden departure after sending anti-Catholic emails to SFA colleagues.

Last season turned out to be something of a disaster for Scottish referees, in Celtic matches alone Scott McKenna, Steven MacLean, Dolly Menga, Darnell Johnson and Ryan Kent were issued with retrospective red cards for incidents missed by the match referees.

In November the club from Ibrox issued a statement claiming that Willie Collum had underlying issues, it wasn’t until the final match of the SPFL season that Collum was put in charge of another fixture involving Steven Gerrard’s side.

Between Christmas and the end of the season Collum was given five Celtic matches.
