Celtic have made their first move into the transfer market with a bid for David Turnbull rejected by Motherwell.

It’s believed that an offer in the region of £2m was made for the 19-year-old who made the breakthrough last season with 14 goals scored from midfield.

Over the last couple of years Celtic have signed Ryan Christie and Stuart Armstrong from rival SPFL clubs with both players making strong contributions to Celtic’s recent success.

A number of English clubs are reported to be ready to bid for Turnbull who is under contract with Motherwell until 2021.

Celtic’s need to sign Turnbull is more pressing that the English sides with the hoops in action on July 9/10 almost a month ahead of the start of the EPL and Championship.

Further negotiations are expected between the two clubs with Motherwell certain to be looking for a healthy percentage of any sell on fee and likely to be offered some Celtic players on loan.
