St Johnstone move for freed Celtic defender

|

Wallace Duffy is wanted by St Johnstone, according to a report in The Sun

The defender was released by Celtic at the end of last season and looks set to stay in the top flight of the Scottish game.

Duffy came on to a strong game in the second half of the season, impressing at right back as well as his more familiar position of centre half.

Like many players coming through at Celtic there was little chance of stepping up in either position.

St Johnstone were one of the first clubs to pull out of the Reserve League which flopped with teams restricted to just 17 matches.

Saints have a strong record of bringing through their own player, with Joe Shaughnessy leaving at the end of his contract and English interest in Jason Kerr the door to first team football could be opening up to Duffy.

Last season’s back up keeper for the Reserve League, Reece Willison, has signed for League One Airdrie.
