Stephen McGowan has confirmed Celtic’s interest in defensive duo Christopher Jullien and Peter Ankersen.

The journalist with the best track record on Celtic transfer deals worrying leads with Celtic’s interest in £3m rated Rapid Vienna left-back Boli Mbobo as a replacement for Kieran Tierney.

Celtic’s defence is already badly in need of reinforcements, contemplating the loss of Tierney would mean virtually starting to build a defence from scratch with only Kris Ajer having any sort of experience.

Right-back and centre-half are the positions that Celtic fans want to see filled with McGowan providing this update for Daily Mail readers:

Both Celtic and Aberdeen have dismissed reports of a £5m bid for Scotland central defender Scott McKenna. However, the Parkhead club have an interest in £7m-rated Toulouse defender Christopher Jullien, while Danish international right-back Peter Ankersen is also a £2.5m target from FC Copenhagen.

Interest in Jullien first came to light in respected French publication L’Equipe while the links to Ankersen appear to have been inspired by Football Manager and message board enthusiasts.

Celtic fly out to Austria today, it remains to be seen whether Neil Lennon will be giving any interviews before Wednesday’s match against Pinkafeld.
