Unai Emery has vowed to stay patient rather than move on to his Plan B list of transfer targets.

Celtic have rejected two bids for Kieran Tierney with Crystal Palace laughing off an offer of £40m for Wilfried Zaha.

A £28m bid for Saint Etienne’s teenage central defender William Saliba has still to be completed with Arsenal fans questioning how their club is going about business with a reported budget of £45m to take them back into the Champions League.

Speaking after the 3-0 pre-season win over Fiorentina Emery told Metro:

Some players are very expensive and we are waiting for this possibility. We don’t want now to go to the second line of players. We are waiting. We have very good players. We have very good young players.

We are aware also that we need to improve some players in this squad but only, only I want to sign one, two, three or four players only if we can be sure they are coming to improve our team. There are a lot of names. The club is working, Edu is very close to me and Raul [Sanllehi]. We speak every day. Here we spoke with the Kroenke family.

Tierney hasn’t given any indication of being interested in moving to Arsenal despite a month of speculation. The EPL transfer deadline is 5pm on August 8 with the Scottish deadline at midnight on September 2.

The defender is currently recovering from injury and has yet to join in full training with no date set for his return to action.

With a contract running until 2023 Celtic are in the driving seat with any bid as Arsenal try to get maximum value out of their transfer budget.
