Peter Houston has returned to the Celtic scouting network.

The one time Dundee United boss spent eight months at Celtic before quitting to take charge of Falkirk in June 2014.

After leading them to the play-off’s in three successive seasons and the Scottish Cup Final in 2015 he was sacked early in the 2017/18 season after a slow start to the Championship.

Houston enjoyed stints assisting the Scotland u-21 side and at Morton with Jonatan Johansson as well as being a regular pundit with Radio Scotland.

Brendan Rodgers’ departure to Leicester in February followed by some cheer-leaders created openings in the backroom with The Sun announcing a new role for Houston:

And he has been invited back to the club following analyst Jack Lyons’ departure to Leicester City. Houston will take over the role of providing the low-down on Celtic’s opponents, including the club’s potential Champions League rivals.

Celtic will be away to Cluj or Maccabi Tel Aviv on August 6/7 in the third qualifying round of the Champions League assuming that they complete the job on Nomme Kalju on Tuesday.

The Romanian side won the first leg 1-0 at home with the return leg kicking off at 6pm on Tuesday, exactly the same time as Celtic are in action in Estonia.
