Jozo Simunovic will miss two domestic matches following his record card against St Gallen in a pre-season FRIENDLY!

The defender became the first victim of VAR during Celtic’s pre-season match in Switzerland with the referee firstly giving a yellow card then after consulting VAR upgrading that to a red.

After the match Neil Lennon was unsure what would happen, he seemed concerned that it could result in a UEFA suspension but today The Sun has reported that a domestic suspension will apply.

Referee Fedayi San reported the dismissal to the Swiss FA who have since informed the SFA that Simunovic was given his marching orders for serious foul play. He is now suspended for Celtic’s opener at home to St Johnstone and the Scottish champions’ second league outing of the season away at Motherwell.

Simunovic started in both of Celtic’s Champions League qualifiers against Sarajevo but with Christopher Jullien joining the club from Toulouse it looks likely that Simunovic will drop down the pecking order.

With a two match suspension coming Neil Lennon will get the chance to play Jullien alongside Kris Ajer which could have a longer impact on Simunovic’s two match suspension.

The former Dinamo Zagreb defender will be available for the Champions League qualifiers against Nomme Kalju.
