Image for Lennon reveals that Tierney’s return is a slow burner

Neil Lennon doesn’t know when he will have Kieran Tierney back in action.

The defender made sporadic appearances in the second half of last season but once the SPFL title was won at Pittodrie he never featured again and had an end of season double hernia operation.

Tierney spent five days training with the first team in Austria amid strong speculation that Arsenal were about to put in an increased bid for the 22-year-old.

When Boli Bolingoli was signed for £3m from Rapid Vienna some folk assumed that Tierney would soon be on his way but as Lennon revealed today there is still a lot of rehab to be done before he will be in line to play again.

He’s still injured and he’s rehabbing. He had a double hernia and he still has the Osteitis pubis problem so it’s a slow burner that one.

Bolingoli started the Champions League qualifier away to Sarajevo in midweek but after injuring his ankle was replaced by Johnny Hayes.

New signing Luca Connell is in line for his debut tomorrow against Rennes and is another option to play at left-back.
