Daniel Sturridge is on his way to join the Gerrard Revolution according to the bookies.

The 29-year-old became a free agent at midnight last night and is an obvious signing target for the Ibrox spin machine that last week was pushing the idea of signing Martin Skrtel.

Sturridge’s career has never quite recovered from the 2014 World Cup in Brazil where he was part of Roy Hodgeson’s flops after almost winning the EPL title with Liverpool.

Raheem Sterling and Luis Suarez have gone from strength to strength but for Sturridge is has been a rapid descent downhill opening up the prospect of joining Steve Davis and Jermain Defoe on the Ibrox payroll.

Last season Sturridge started eight matches for Liverpool, the season before Jurgen Klopp picked him for five matches with a further two starts on loan at West Brom as they headed towards relegation.

Despite that grim track record Sturridge won’t go short on offers, the prospect of scoring a dozen goals in the EPL can make a difference of £100m to a club avoiding relegation.

As the close season fantasies continue at Ibrox the former Liverpool striker seems certain to team up with Defoe to provide more comfort to the deluded.
