Nir Bitton is the surprise choice at centre-back in the Celtic side to face FK Sarajevo tonight with Kris Ajer shifted to right-back.

Bitton only played in midfield during the pre-season matches but will team up with Jozo Simunovic with Boli Bolingoli making his debut at left-back in a new look back four.

Tonight’s XI is the first selected by Neil Lennon since getting the manager’s job on a permanent basis after taking over as caretaker in February.

In his two previous Champions League campaigns Lennon steered Celtic through to the group phase but the four round format presents a longer challenge than he has faced before.

Jack Hendry and Marian Shved were both left behind when Celtic flew out to Bosnia yesterday although neither was likely to have made the starting selection.

Tom Rogic and Kieran Tierney are continuing their rehab at Lennoxtown with Lennon hoping that both men will be available for selection later this month.

CELTIC: Bain; Ajer, Simunovic, Bitton, Bolingoli; Brown McGregor; Forrest, Christie, Johnston; Edouard

SUBS: Gordon, Jullien, Ralston, Hayes, Morgan, Sinclair, Griffiths
